The Mark page lists the joints in groups, in the order below. The words under Where are the same ones the add-on shows. Placed says what the add-on does with your click:

On the middle line: the joint sits on the animal's centre line. Click from the side.
Inside the leg or Inside the body: click from the side and the depth is worked out from the leg itself.
On the skin: click the part itself, from any angle.
In the tail: click the tail itself, from any angle; the joint goes in its middle.

A joint on the left side has a copy on the right while Both sides match is on. Only the chest centre and the hip centre are strictly needed to build; every other joint you skip is a part of the rig that is not built.

Head and spine

Always in the list.

Joint	Where	Placed
Nose tip	The very tip of the nose, at the front of the muzzle.	On the middle line
Head centre	The middle of the head, roughly between the ears and the eyes.	On the middle line
Neck base	Where the neck meets the body, in front of the shoulder blades.	On the middle line
Chest centre (required)	The middle of the chest, level with the top of the front legs.	On the middle line
Hip centre (required)	The middle of the hips, level with the top of the back legs.	On the middle line

Tail

Tail point 1	The first point along the tail, nearest the base. Click the tail itself.	In the tail

Tail point 4	The next point along the tail, going towards the tip.	In the tail

Front legs

Front paw	The front foot, where the toes start.	Inside the leg
Wrist (carpus)	The wrist, low down the front leg. On a dog it is the joint just above the paw.	Inside the leg
Elbow	The elbow, high on the front leg and close to the chest. It points backwards.	Inside the leg
Shoulder	The top of the front leg, where it meets the body.	Inside the body

Front hooves

Front hoof fetlock	The joint just above the hoof. Place its centre from a side view.	Inside the leg
Front hoof heel	The back edge of the hoof sole, where it touches the ground.	On the skin
Front hoof toe	The front edge of the hoof sole, where it rolls forward.	On the skin
Front hoof inner edge	The inside edge of the hoof sole, towards the other leg.	On the skin
Front hoof outer edge	The outside edge of the hoof sole, away from the other leg.	On the skin

Dewclaws

Dewclaw	The small claw above the front paw, on the inside of the leg. Skip it if there is none.	On the skin

Back paw	The back foot, where the toes start.	Inside the leg
Ankle (hock)	The ankle, low on the back leg. It points backwards, the opposite way to the knee.	Inside the leg
Knee (stifle)	The knee, about halfway down the back leg. It points forwards.	Inside the leg
Hip	The top of the back leg, where it meets the body.	Inside the body

Rear hooves

Rear hoof fetlock	The joint just above the hoof. Place its centre from a side view.	Inside the leg

Rear hoof inner edge	The inside edge of the hoof sole, towards the other leg.	On the skin

Eye	The eye. Click on the eyeball itself and the centre is worked out.	On the skin
Ear base	Where the ear meets the head.	On the skin
Ear tip	The tip of the ear, at its furthest point from the head.	On the skin
Jaw hinge	Where the jaw hinges, just below and in front of the ear.	On the skin
Chin	The front of the lower jaw, under the mouth.	On the middle line
Mouth corner	Where the upper and lower lips meet at the back of the mouth. Click the skin.	On the skin
Upper lip centre	The centre of the upper lip, directly below the nose. Click the lip surface.	On the skin
Lower lip centre	The centre of the lower lip, just above the chin. Click the lip surface.	On the skin

Brows

Hooves

Only for an animal with hooves. Each hoof has the same five points; the back hooves are a second group like the front ones.

hoof outer edge	The outside edge of the hoof sole, away from the other leg.	On the skin

Words for the leg joints

Hock = ankle. The backward-pointing joint on the lower hind leg, not the knee.
Stifle = knee. The forward-pointing bend high on the hind leg.
Scapula = shoulder blade. It slides over the ribs above the front leg; mark the shoulder joint at its lower end.
Pastern = the short sloping region between the fetlock and the top of the hoof.
