Rebuild
Move a mark or change a feature after building, and keep your animation and painted weights.
A rig is never final. Move a mark, turn a feature on or off, and rebuild. The rig is updated in place, not thrown away.
When to rebuild
On Generate, the banner says The marks changed. Rebuild to update the rig after you:
- drag a mark on Mark,
- turn a feature on or off under Rig features,
- change the species or the feet on Setup.
The top button reads Rebuild rig. Export shows the same warning, so an old rig is not written out by mistake.
What a rebuild keeps
- Your animation. The same action and NLA stay on the rig, and the keys still drive the same controls.
- Your pose, even where it is not keyed.
- Weights you painted by hand. They are carried across, and Problems lists which ones.
- The switches and sliders: IK or FK, parent spaces, follow settings, foot roll and the rest.
- Your choices on the controls: constraints you added, control shapes you swapped in, rotation modes, and which control sets are showing.
- Anything you added to the rig yourself, such as an extra bone. It is left exactly as it is: a rebuild only ever removes what the add-on made.
One exception: a control whose mark moved goes back to its rest position if it was not keyed. A pose that was not keyed cannot follow a joint that moved. Keyed controls keep their keys.
See the changes first
Press Preview changes. It lists what the rebuild would add, update, rename and remove, and anything that blocks it. Nothing is built.
If a rebuild would remove something you can see, such as a control, a deform bone, or a bone your keys point at, pressing Rebuild rig opens a dialog that lists it. Only its Rebuild button goes ahead. Keys that pointed at a removed bone stay in the action, so you can point them somewhere else.
Undo last build
Undo last build puts back the last rig that built without problems. Use it if a rebuild went wrong, or if something broke the rig, such as deleted bones.
If that rig is older than your current marks, the page says so. Build again when you are ready.
When a rebuild stops
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| A name the rig needs is taken by something else | Rename the other thing, or build this animal in its own file. |
A bone was renamed outside the add-on, for example thigh.L to thigh.L.001 | Rename it back, or undo what renamed it. The rebuild will not rename it back under another add-on. |
Both are listed with their codes on the problems page.
